Scope and Content 19th century view of Kinghorn, Fife Kinghorn was a royal burgh by about 1170. It had a weekly market from 1285, but was not represented in parliament until 1470. Much of the burgh was rebuilt in the 19th century when the linen industry brought new prosperity. This 19th-century view shows the burgh in its industrial heyday. A gentleman and his female companion observe the burgh as three factory chimneys belch smoke into the sky. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
