Scope and Content Cross-slab, New Scone, Perth and Kinross In 1978 this stone was identified as a fragment of an Early Christian cross-slab. Both faces of the slab are decorated with elaborate geometric designs. On this face is a long shafted cross of a type known as a cross-potent, surrounded by panels of key-pattern interlace. The decoration on this cross-slab is similar to the large collection of Early Christian sculpture at St Andrews Cathedral. Cross-slabs like this were probably used as grave-markers.
