Scope and Content Parish Manse ('Glebelands'), Chapel Yard, Falkland, Fife The Parish Manse was built in 1804-7 by Thomas Barclay, almost half a century before the parish church it served was rebuilt. Though a simple two-storey building, the manse's scale, and its setting in a walled garden underlines the social status of the minister who lived there. Falkland began as a village overlooked by a castle of the Earls of Fife. The castle became a royal hunting residence in 1437 and in 1458 Falkland, now a town, received burgh status so it could support the court. After 1700, weaving was its main industry.
