Scope and Content King Street, Inverkeithing, Fife Inverkeithing became a royal burgh in the 12th century. Its economy was based on trade. A new distillery and ironworks saved it from decline in the late 18th century. Its key 20th-century industries were papermaking and ship-building and breaking.
