Scope and Content Colen, cup markings, Perth and Kinross On a south-west facing terrace about 740m north-north-east of Colen steading, there are the remains of a stone circle comprising nine stones. Only one stone survives standing, all the others have fallen or have been broken. This is one of the fallen stones which measures 1.5m by 1.45m and is at least 0.4m thick. There are around 32 cupmarks visible on the stone surface, measuring up to 90mm in diameter. Dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age in Scotland, cup markings are circular hollows pecked into the surface of a boulder or rock-face. They are sometimes surrounded by one or more concentric rings.
