Scope and Content Palisaded enclosure at Upper Gothens, Perth and Kinross This palisaded enclosure is situated on the summit of a low hill, 150m east of Upper Gothens steading. This is an aerial view of the site. The enclosure can be seen as a light ring-like cropmark at the centre of the image. Cropmarks may indicate the position of early settlements and burial sites even if no traces survive above the ground. They are formed when crops growing over ditches and postholes ripen and change colour revealing the outline of a site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
