Scope and Content Front face of a Pictish cross-slab at Alyth, Perth and Kinross This Pictish cross-slab was discovered during landscaping near the manse in Alyth in 1887. The slab now stands in the porch of the High Kirk in Alyth. Carved on the front of the slab is a Latin cross, its limbs decorated with an interlace pattern. Between the limbs of the cross are spirals. Over 200 Pictish symbol stones are known in Scotland, employing a variety of symbols. Carvings drawing on the real world, such as objects and animals, are found in conjunction with detailed abstract designs and fantastic creatures. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
