Scope and Content Carnegie Clinic, Dunfermline, Fife The Carnegie Clinic was built by H and D Barclay of Glasgow in 1911-12. The tall, rectangular windows, the crow-stepped gable, the carved balustrade and the carvings on the gable over the entrance all suggest the style of the early Renaissance when European architects began to rediscover ancient Greek and Roman ideas. Historical styles like those based on early Renaissance architecture became popular in the 19th century, partly because they reflected national, rather than Classical, architectural traditions.
