Scope and Content Main entrance, Carnegie Centre, Dunfermline, Fife The Carnegie Centre was built in 1901-5 by Hippolyte J Blanc of Edinburgh as a sports centre and swimming pool. It was modified and extended by James Parr and Partners in 1979-84. The tall gable above the entrance, and the towers on either side of it with curving ogee roofs are typical of the Scottish Renaissance style. Historical styles like those based on early Renaissance architecture became popular in the 19th century, partly because they reflected national, rather than Classical, architectural traditions.
