Scope and Content Architect's drawing of St Margaret's Memorial RC Church, Dunfermline, Fife St Margaret's Memorial RC Church was designed by R Rowand Anderson in 1889. It was intended to rival the Presbyterian's Abbey Church which occupied the site of St Margaret's original shrine, but its construction was hampered by financial problems. This illustration based on the architect's drawing was published in 1895. However, most of the design, including the impressive south-east steeple (right) had to be abandoned because of lack of funding. St Margaret (c.1045-93) was a half-German Anglo-Saxon princess who fled to Scotland after 1066 and married King Malcolm Canmore. Her good works, including continental-style church 'reform', helped strengthen the Canmore dynasty. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
