Scope and Content Aerial view of a farmstead at Standingstone Edge, Dumfries and Galloway Situated on the south-eastern slopes of Standingstone Edge, some 400m north-east of Callisterhall steading, are the remains of a post-medieval farmstead. The farm comprises three compact ridged fields, which were probably hand-dug using spades. In the fields to the left of the large enclosure are footings of small rectangular structures, built from turf. Post-medieval buildings such as these were probably built of turf or clay walls set onto rubble footings with a cruck-framed roof, constructed using bowed timbers. The roof would probably be thatched or covered with heather or turves. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
