Scope and Content Detail of specimen stained glass window, St Brycedale Church, St Brycedale Avenue, Kirkcaldy, Fife Kirkcaldy became a royal burgh in 1644 and originated as a settlement around a 16th-century harbour. The Industrial Revolution had a great impact on the town, and it became a centre for linoleum manufacture in the 19th century. St Brycedale Church was built in 1878-81 to designs by James Matthews of Aberdeen. With an impressive 60m-tower and spire, the church was converted in 1988 to form a ground-floor community centre, and a church on the first floor. This image shows two of the many stained glass windows in the church. This pair represents the Bible verse 'I am the Resurrection and the Life' (John 11, 25), and is dedicated to Isabella Nairn (1850-1882), a member of the famous linoleum factory family.
