Description Oblique aerial view.

Date 1988

Collection RCAHMS Aerial Photography

Catalogue Number SC 379152

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of B 16838

Scope and Content Camp Knowe, settlement, Dumfries and Galloway Damaged by quarrying, this irregularly-shaped settlement occupies Camp Knowe, a small rocky hillock some 400m north-west of Gardenholm steading and some 3km north-west of Moffat. The settlement is enclosed by a wall which is now reduced to a grassy bank. Around the base of the hillock is a shallow ditch with an external bank of earth and stone. No internal structures can be seen. Settlements like this probably consisted of a few timber-built round-houses with a yard for animals and storage. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
