Scope and Content Coroghon Castle, Canna, Highland from the north-west Coroghon Castle stands on top of a stack at the south-east end of the cliffs that form the east end of Canna. The castle is said to have been a prison, used in the late 17th century by Donald MacDonald of Clanranald to confine his wife. The stack juts out into the sea, and is accessible only by a steep path which ascends a narrow neck of land connecting it to the mainland. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie.
