Scope and Content North block of Cupar Academy, Castlehill, Cupar, Fife Cupar Academy was built in 1806 by John Davidson, mason, and Charles Stewart, wright, on or near the site of a medieval castle. The south range was added in 1844-6, and the north block in 1867. Cupar, Castlehill, Academy Building / Education / / School /<br />NMRS Other Cupar began as a settlement around a castle of the Earls of Fife. The castle was demolished by King David II to stop the English from occupying it, but the town, a royal burgh since 1328 and seat of the sheriff of Fife, survived.
