Scope and Content Upper portion of Surface Plan of barony Colliery, Ayrshire Barony Colliery's Shafts 1 and 2 opened in 1910 under Bairds and Dalmellington Ltd. Shaft 3, planned in 1938, opened in 1945. Shaft 2 collapsed and Shaft 1 was filled in 1962. Production halted until 1965 when shaft 4 was sunk. The mine closed in 1989. This is the upper portion of the plan of Barony Colliery after it was greatly expanded in the 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
