Scope and Content Inside the Time Office, Seafield Colliery, Kirkcaldy, Fife Seafield Colliery was sunk by the National Coal Board in 1954-66. It was one of five new super-pits and, in its heyday in 1970, employed 2,466 people. It was closed in 1988. The Time Office is where miners collect their tokens when they clock-on and return them when they clock-off their shifts of work. The token boards on the turntables tell managers who is underground. This is particularly important in case of an accident. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
