Catalogue Number SC 375327

Copy of A 36674

Scope and Content Detail of cup-and-ring markings at Kilmichael Glassary, Argyll and Bute In the village of Kilmichael Glassary there are two groups of cup-and-ring markings carved into outcrops of rock. More markings are probably hidden by overlying turf and tree roots. Cup marks like these at Kilmichael Glassary would have been made by using a stone to peck out the depressions. Broadly similar Neolithic rock art appears in north-west Spain, Brittany and Ireland. The purpose of these carvings remains uncertain. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
