Scope and Content Excavation on site of Bon Accord and St Neicholas shopping centres, Aberdeen Excavations in Aberdeen have uncovered remarkable evidence of the buildings and associated pottery, bone and stone artefacts of the earlier medieval period, as well as organic remains. This is one of several sites excavated prior to the construction of the Bon Accord and St Nicholas shopping centres. Medieval Aberdeen, a Royal Burgh by 1179, was a trading community with an economy based on fishing and making goods out of animal products like wool and leather. Though it had a castle by 1264, the town was unwalled. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
