Scope and Content Fort at Doune, Perth and Kinross The Roman fort at Doune is situated on Castle Hill, overlooking a crossing point on the River Teith. It was first discovered by aerial photography in 1983. Sections of the fort are visible as cropmarks in aerial views such as this one. The fort occupied the area between the modern buildings and the medieval castle which can be seen in the lower right of the image. The river is also visible. The fort is probably Flavian in date, and appears to have had only one period of occupation. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
