Scope and Content Fortlet at Kaims Castle, Perth and Kinross Kaims Castle Roman fortlet was probably used as a signalling station along the Roman road linking Ardoch and Strageath. It stands close to the road, and its single entrance was linked to the road with a paved causeway. As can be seen in this aerial view of the site, the outline was a little unusual. The inner enclosure is almost square in shape. This is surrounded by an almost circular ditch with counterscarp bank. Kaims Castle was first excavated in 1900 by Christison. No evidence of postholes or any internal structures were found, nor was any datable evidence recovered. based on sites in Devon, England, the fortlet may be Flavian with an Antonine reoccupation.
