Scope and Content Fortlet at Kaims Castle, Perth and Kinross Kaims Castle Roman fortlet was probably used as a signalling station along the Roman road linking Ardoch and Strageath. It stands close to the road, and its single entrance was linked to the road with a paved causeway. The outline of the fortlet can be seen in this aerial view of the site. It does not follow the typical shape of such fortlets, having a square inner enclosure, surrounded by a circular ditch with counterscarp bank. Kaims Castle was first excavated in 1900 by Christison. No evidence of postholes or any internal structures were found, nor was any datable evidence recovered. based on sites in Devon, England, the fortlet may be Flavian with an Antonine reoccupation.
