Scope and Content Old Library, St Mary's College, St Andrews, Fife St Mary's College was founded in 1537 by James Beaton, Archbishop of St Andrews. Since its initial completion in 1544 (with the help of French masons employed on king's palace at Falkland), the college has been expanded and modernised. The original Old Library block was built in 1612-18, reconstructed in 1764-7 and extended in 1829-30. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
