Scope and Content Carved wooden doorway in Old Library, St Mary's College, St Andrews, Fife St Mary's College was founded in 1537 by James Beaton, Archbishop of St Andrews. Since its initial completion in 1544 (with the help of French masons employed on king's palace at Falkland), the college has been expanded and modernised. This carved wooden doorway is in the original Old Library block which was built in 1612-18, reconstructed in 1764-7 and extended in 1829-30. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
