Scope and Content Corbel on Old Library, St Mary's College, St Andrews, Fife St Mary's College was founded in 1537 by James Beaton, Archbishop of St Andrews. Since its initial completion in 1544 (with the help of French masons employed on king's palace at Falkland), the college has been expanded and modernised. This is one of the corbels built into the wall between each pair of windows of the Old Library. The two west corbels were made in 1829-30, the rest are medieval.
