Scope and Content Cloister-arcade of Iona Nunnery, Argyll an Bute The remains of this Augustinian nunnery stand on sheltered ground about 400 m south-west of the Abbey. They comprise the nunnery church and portions of the associated conventual buildings standing on the south side. The remains date from the 13th century. Very little evidence of the cloister-arcade now survives, though enough fragments remain to give an idea of how it looked. It was first built during the 13th century. During the 15th century, the east range was rebuilt allowing for a larger cloister area. This drawing gives an idea of how the arches would have looked. There were two arch designs, this one having roll-and-hollow mouldings. The arches do not appear to have keystones (a central stone at the top). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
