Scope and Content The township of Tarbert, Canna, Highland on an estate map of 1805 The township of Tarbert was cleared of tenants in the mid-19th century by Donald MacNeill II. The stones from the township buildings are said to have been robbed to build the walls of the improved fields. The township of Tarbert is depicted on an estate map of 1805 as a group of nine buildings, one of which has an adjoining enclosure. A track leads into the township from the west, and where it crosses the gully, a further two buildings are shown. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie. This landscape is published as RCAHMS Broadsheet 5. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
