Scope and Content An orthostatic field-wall at the west end of Canna Orthostatic walls survive in the interior at the west end of Canna. Although undated, they belong to field-systems and may well be contemporary with the handful of hut-circles recorded at this end of the island. This orthostatic wall is now partly buried in peat. Its survival owes much to the use of the landscape for pasture through subsequent periods. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie. This landscape is published as RCAHMS Broadsheet 5. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
