The exterior of the shop was photographed in 1895 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The premises occupy part of a late 18th-century building, with a 19th-century shop front built out at ground level. The royal crest indicates that the firm were appointed 'goldsmiths, silversmiths, clock & watchmakers to Her Majesty' Queen Victoria. Hamilton & Inches opened a shop in Princes Street in 1866, selling jewellery and repairing watches and clocks. In 1888 they incorporated the old firm of Robert Bryson & Sons, and expanded into new premises that included their own craftsmen's workshop. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
