Scope and Content Photograph of lithograph showing Old Bridge of Earn, Perthshire The Old Bridge at Bridge of Earn dates from the late 15th or early 16th century. It spans the Earn at its lowest crossing-point, a few miles upstream from the River Tay. It was partly dismantled in 1822 after a new bridge was built upstream. This lithograph give some idea of how the bridge must have looked just before the new bridge was built. The lithograph was drawn by David Octavius Hill, who was an important figure in early photography. The lithograph also shows the bridge with five arches. The bridge originally only had four arches, but a fifth was added in 1766 due to erosion on the north (left) bank. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
