Scope and Content View of boats in Lock 14 of the Crinan Canal The Crinan Canal was built in 1794-1801 to join Loch Gilp and Loch Crinan and is still operational. Though only 14.48km long, its construction was difficult because the ground was either too soft or too rocky. A large variety of vessels have passed along the Crinan Canal during its existence, including fishing, commercial and pleasure boats. It is still used today, mainly for pleasure trips.
