Scope and Content Later kitchen on ground-floor of main block, Culross Palace, Fife Culross Palace, originally called 'The Great Lodging', was built between 1597 and 1611 by George Bruce. Restored by The National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland, it is the best surviving example of a merchant's house from that period. This ground-floor kitchen was part of the early 17th-century additions to the original merchant's house. This picture was taken in 1939 and shows the fireplace, which would have occupied the entire end-wall, before it was restored. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
