It was largely rebuilt as a three-storeyed mansion in 1830 by Sir Robert Preston. This was partially dismantled in 1955. Following the partial dismantling, the stubs of the once-tall flanking towers were converted into pavilions, capped with the original bell-shaped or ogival roofs.
