Scope and Content Chambered cairn at South Yarrows, Caithness, Highland There are two chambered cairns at South Yarrow, lying E-W on the flat summit of the hill, about 30 m apart. Both have forecourts defined by horns and were originally edged with drystone walls. Both were excavated in 1865. This is a view of the S cairn. Part of the E end has been destroyed by a modern building, but the long horns of the forecourt and part of the passage can be made out. The chamber was divided into three. Another chamber lay halfway along the cairn. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
