Scope and Content Winch-mechanism of hand-operated roller bridge at Lock 11, Dunardry, Crinan Canal, Argyll The Crinan Canal was built in 1794-1801 to join Loch Gilp and Loch Crinan and is still operational. Though only 14.48 km long, its construction was difficult because the ground was either too soft or too rocky. This winch-mechanism controls the hand-operated roller cantilever-bridge which was installed in 1900. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
