Scope and Content Detail of cast-iron bracket supporting canopy on south platform at Taynuilt Railway Station, Argyll and Bute Lying c.15km east of Oban, Taynuilt's railway station was completed in 1879. Built for the Callander and Oban Railway then incorporated into the Caledonian Railway, it is now the only remaining example of the picturesque stations built on this line. Taynuilt station is of the standard two-platform type built along the Callander and Oban line. This is one of the cast iron brackets supporting the glazed canopy over the south platform. The main station building is timber-framed with vertical boarding. Above the entrance to the main station building is a badge inscribed 'C & O R' for Callander and Oban Railway, and the date 1879 in Roman numerals. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
