Scope and Content View of waiting room on north platform of Taynuilt Railway Station, Argyll and Bute Lying c.15km east of Oban, Taynuilt's railway station was completed in 1879. Built for the Callander and Oban Railway then incorporated into the Caledonian Railway, it is now the only remaining example of the picturesque stations built on this line. Taynuilt station is of the standard type built along the Callander and Oban line. It has two platforms, a timber-built single-storeyed station building, and this large timber-framed shelter on the opposite (north) side. Above the entrance to the main station building is a badge inscribed 'C & O R' for Callander and Oban Railway, and the date 1879 in Roman numerals. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
