Scope and Content Detail of ironwork on roof cope of south train-shed at St Enoch Station, Glasgow St Enoch was the principal terminus of the Glasgow and South Western Railway Company. It was opened in 1876 and six additional platforms were added between 1898-1902. The design engineers were John Fowler and James Blair. The use of iron roof-trusses in the mid-19th century enabled large spaces to be spanned for the first time without any intermediate support. The iron arches at St Enoch had a span of 60m. This is the decorative ironwork crest on the roof cope of the train-sheds at St Enoch Station before it was demolished in 1977 to make way for the massive St Enoch Centre - a shopping centre and ice rink - in 1981-9.
