Scope and Content Roman fort at Glenlochar, Dumfries and Galloway This fort was originally built in the late 1st century AD and reoccupied in the mid-2nd century. From the air, cropmarks reveal the fort's internal grid pattern of buildings and roads. In the bottom left, the triple ditches of the annexe where the fort's bath-house and various workshops were usually located join those of the fort. The fort, which guards an important crossing of the River Dee, served as a focal point in the Roman subjugation of south-west Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
