Scope and Content Lighthouse at Loch Crinan entrance of Crinan Canal, Argyll The Crinan Canal was built in 1794-1801 to join Loch Gilp and Loch Crinan and is still operational. Though only 14.48 km long, its construction was difficult because the ground was either too soft or too rocky. This lighthouse allows the entrance to be used at night or in poor visibility.
