Scope and Content Map of Bonawe Ironworks, Bonawe, Strathclyde Bonawe Ironworks on the shore of Loch Etive was founded in 1752-3 by Richard Ford and Company as an offshoot of their works at Furness in England. It exploited local wood for smelting iron ore brought via the loch from Lancashire and Cumberland. This map shows the area around Bonawe Ironworks, including the aqueduct which fed the mill-race, and the quay where boats would be loaded with the finished product.
