Scope and Content View of wooden bridge at Garve, Ross and Cromarty The early 19th century saw the first use of cast iron in constructing bridges in Scotland. However, there was something of a renaissance in wooden bridges in the late 19th century, although it is not clear why this should have happened. This bridge at Garve is one of only four of its type to survive. Built during the late 19th century, the bridge is of timber trestle construction, and consists of eight spans, with six main truss spans. The bridge is still in use today.
