Description Structural and Mechanical Details from Beam Engine House Insc. "GDH"

Catalogue Number SC 357894

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of DC 10660

Scope and Content Drawing of crank and eccentric details of beam-engine in Garlogie Mill, Garlogie, Grampian This mid 19th-century beam-engine is virtually intact and is the only Scottish example of its type still in its original position. It is a house-built rotative beam-engine of medium size, with a double-acting cylinder, separate condenser and air-pump. As the fly-wheel rotates, the eccentric moves back and forth. It releases the pressure in the cylinder each time the piston rod has been forced up as far as it will go. The governor uses centrifugal force to regulate the rotation of the engine.
