Scope and Content Roman temporary camp and mining remains at Stonypath, Scottish Borders A Roman temporary camp was built on the steep north-west slope of Lead Law, and part of the defensive ditch and rampart can still be traced amongst mining remains. In a landscape dotted with small, relatively shallow pits with spoil heaps, the rounded corner of the Roman temporary camp can be seen. There is evidence to suggest that the mining of silver and lead has taken place since at least the 16th century. Recent excavations in the area of the pond revealed pottery dating to the 13th-14th centuries. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
