Scope and Content Temporary camp at Oakwood, Scottish Borders This Roman temporary camp is at Oakwood, near Selkirk. It lies on a NW-facing slope, and a section of the bank and ditch at the NE corner can be made out on the ground. The outline of the camp can be seen as a cropmark in aerial photographs, such as this one. Here, two sides and a rounded angle can be made out. The rampart was originally about 5 m wide and was surrounded by a ditch 2 m wide. The camp was discovered by aerial photography in 1949. It was excavated in the 1950s. The camp may have been built to house those building the adjacent Roman fort. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
