Scope and Content Cross-slab at Rossie Priory, Perth and Kinross Rossie Priory cross-slab was found originally in the old parish graveyard and is now housed within a private mortuary chapel. The stone at Rossie Priory is unusual for bearing two crosses on either face. On the front the cross is carved in high relief, with intricate scroll-work in-filling the panels. Surrounding the cross are a number of finely carved monsters and beasts. Pictish symbols are perhaps the best-known aspect of this somewhat enigmatic people. Recent work by scholars has suggested that some symbols might relate to personal names. Similarly, the monsters could relate to stories which the Picts knew. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
