Scope and Content Diesel engine at Blackpots Brick and Tile Works, Whitehills, Knock Head, Grampian Blackpots Brick and Tile Works was established on Blackpots Farm by Dr Saunders, and extended by his son in 1788. It produced pantiles until the early 20th century, bricks until 1946 and drainage-tiles from 1840 until it closed in the 1970s. This diesel engine was manufactured by Alexander Shanks and Son Ltd of Arbroath and London. It was used to drive the pug-mills which stirred the clay with water to produce slip.
