Scope and Content Fort, fortlet and settlement at Croy Hill, North Lanarkshire This Roman fort, fortlet and civilian settlement are on Croy Hill. They are built on a plateau, 300m NE from the summit, and over looking the Kelvin valley. The fortlet is 80 m SW of the fort and the settlement is to the S. This is an aerial view of the site. It shows a section of the Antonine Wall. Croy Hill is one of the highest areas crossed by the Wall. The fort marks the mid-point along its length. Excavations in the 19th century uncovered the location of the fort's headquarters building. Also found were inscribed stones showing that a detachment from the Sixth Legion occupied the area for a while. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
