Scope and Content Detail of secondary roof support inside Linthouse Engine Works, Govan, City of Glasgow Linthouse Engine Works was completed in 1872 and, by 1980, was the only remaining part of the shipbuilding yard of Alexander Stephen and Sons. The yard was established in 1869 on the country estate of Linthouse near the River Clyde. Unusual secondary roof supports are formed using truss-posts bolted to the tie-rails and suspended between the stanchions by iron tie-rods. Many large engineering workshops or foundries were built during the 19th-century heavy engineering expansion. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
