Scope and Content Aberdeen Market and British Homes Stores, Aberdeen Aberdeen Market and British Homes Stores was built in 1971-4 on the site of Simpson's neoclassical New Market. Demolition of the older building caused a controversy. Aberdeen, Market Street, Aberdeen Market / Commercial / / Market / DIGITAL IMAGES From the late 1960s, government policy and public opinion shifted in favour of renovation of old buildings, rather than demolition to make way for Modernist edifices.
